I woke up one day to find I weighed 122 kilos and was morbidly obese. But it didn’t actually happen “one day”. It happened over the 35 years I spent following the diet industry’s advice to cut calories, count kilojoules and weigh and measure my food. Thankfully I finally realised it was sugar and processed carbs, low-fat diet foods and crash diets that had made me fat, plus me believing I was a lazy glutton who needed the multi-billion dollar diet industry’s wisdom and assistance to lose weight.
With the help of an amazing and radical nutritionist, Aprille McMahon, I learned how to eat. I now eat when I am hungry and include plenty of good fats like butter, avocado and coconut oil. I also worked with a champion ex-boxer who taught me how to move my body and make it strong and lean. I have so far lost over 40 kilos and detail my transformation in my memoir Death by dim sim, coming out in March 2107 by Penguin Random House.
